Daily cooking

Here is my daily cooking pictures. It is something simple, easy, and cheap... But Nutritious and Healthy!!
This is a Mentaiko cream pasta with Arugula. This was a breakfast dish for Easter sunday, so I made it looks like a egg hunting looking =)

I used Ikura from the sushi night to make a Hara-ko meshi. Hara-ko meshi is a rice bowl dish topped with Ikura (salmon roe) and Salmon Flakes. It is called "Hara-ko meshi" because "Hara" means Mother's body (Salmon), "Ko"means kids (Roe), and "Meshi"means rice in Japanese. So we call it "Hara-ko"(Mother and Kids) rice bowl.

This is my original Japanese stewed dish with beef and satoimo (Japanese sticky Taro) picture below. I added Soy sauce, Mirin, Sake, and Sugar for taste just like other Japanese traditional stew.

People say sticky veggies contains high nutrients in Japan!! and good for digestive system, diet, and make your blood smooth!! => make your Life Longer =)

Okonomiyaki made with Veggies left in my fridge
(Water, Flour, Egg, Cabbage, Carrot, Onion, and Mushroom)

Stewed Pumpkin with ground pork thick sauce
(Soy sauce, Mirin, Fish/Konbu broth, Sugar)

Staring next week, I will post some of the diet recipes since my best friend Mark and my boy friend began their diet to lose their weight before summer =P

Playing Sushi Chef

After visiting Steveston Fish Market, we cleaned Sea urchin, Spot prawns, and Salmon roe (called Sujiko in Japanese) to make sushi for our dinner =)

Mark and I really enjoyed cleaning, but sea urchin was very stinky and difficult to clean...

Cleaning Salmon roe with Hot Water...

It was just like red crystals♥

Added Soy sauce, Sake, and Mirin

Became Ikura now

Grilled Spot Prawn with Sake and Salt

Prawn shell become very crispy and tasty!!

Two types of Spot prawns

Used Prawns and tans of Prawn heads to make Miso soup!! Prawn heads are perfect to make Miso soup broth, and gives a lot of Umami into the soup!

Cleaned Sea urchin!! Milky and Melty...

We made sushi just like sushi chefs, but it was so hard to make nigiri sushi...

We enjoyed making sushi just like kindergarden kids =)

This is the sushi I made!!!

It is so fun to play like kinder gardens once in a while!! And we are adults now so we have more money to make the play real =)

Easter Field Trip

It was the Easter Long Weekend!!! and I had 4 days off so I visited Steveston fish market in Richmond with my cooking buddy Mark =)
The weather in Vancouver has been very beautiful so I really enjoyed the trip.

They sells very fresh seafood for extremely cheap prices.

This is chunks of Sujiko (become Ikura after cleaning).

Fresh Sea Urchin =) Only $3 each!!!!

Mark and I had a pint of Beer at one of the restaurant's patio. Life is wonderful when there is a pint of beer under the sun =)

B-kyu Gourmet

B-kyu Gourmet (means B class Gourmet) is inferior foods that are cheap and tasty and popular among ordinary people such as Ramen, Yakisoba, Curry, Burgers and etc... In Japan, there is B-kyu Gourmet competition every year called "B-1 Grand prix".  to decide which food is the King of the B-kyu Gourmet. Pictures of some of the winners are here ↓
5th year winner: Stewed Chicken Guts

6th year winner: Hiruzen Yakisoba (miso based)

7th year winner: Senbei jiru (rice cracker soup)

I'm gonna introduce to you several B-kyu Gourmet from Vancouver that I think it's delicious and cost efficiently provided =)
This is Beef Tripe with Red Chili Sauce (麻 辣 牛 百 页)from S &W pepper house in Crystal mall, Burnaby. It is a perfect dish with beer, and very spicy but you will be addicted to the taste and spiciness. The price is $7.95 and perfect for appetizer. It is #10a in their menu.

This is another B-kyu gourmet from Crystal Mall, Burnaby. The restaurant is called "Sunshine Cafe" and their Crispy Chicken Nugget Set is one of my favorite meals.

You can order it to go as well, so sometimes I take it out and have it as my lunch at home.

The Chicken Nugget is very crispy and juicy. I really like the black pepper seasoning, and the whole set was around $7!!!
Surprise!!! Did you know the Ramen restaurant "Jinya" have a delivery service as well??!! Sometimes I feel like eating Ramen at home especially when I have hungover. This Delivery Ramen is perfect service for you. The Delivered Ramen is almost the same quality as you taste it at their restaurant because they put soup and noodle in different containers.

This is my favorite appetizer for beer as well. Whenever I visit T&T, I get it and it was on sale for $2.99 this time =) Lucky day!!

Please find your B-kyu from your area

Udon Lesson

This weekend, I taught my best friend Mark how to make Udon noodle from scratch. It is fun to make something home made and taste awesome because you know love is the best spice in the whole world♥
Ingredients for two: 300g white flour, 150-160g water, 1 teaspoon salt

Mix well before adding water. Add water little by little and knead the udon dough

This process of kneading creates the chewiness of Udon

Rolling rolling...

Chop chop...

Awesome home made udon =)

Mark made a half portion

Dipping style Udon!! Ready to eat...

It is very easy and simple!!
Fun activity to make it with your children as well =)
