JP 2013 pt.1

I'm back in Vancouver from Japan now=) so I will post a lot of exciting food pictures from Japan!! While I was in there, I visited the southern island in Japan called "Okinawa" and their food was so different from traditional Japanese cooking. I mean different in Good ways!! I also tried fresh seafood at the harbor in Shizuoka prefecture as well. I really enjoyed food in Japan!! Now I'm ready to cook with the skills that I learned from my mom =)  I will post about Okinawa Trip in this post first... Enjoy =)

Okinawa Trip Day 1-2

For first meal, we went to famous market to have local food.

There was free condiments and many kids of spices on each table.

It was very very local looking restaurant and the warm- hearted mood just like grandmothers house made me feel relaxed.

Okinawan local beer "Orion" was very light and perfect for hot and humid weather there.

These are the free condiments on the table. Takuan (Japanese pickles) and marinated dried pork.

Local veggie called "Shima-rakkyou" was perfect with beer. It is lightly pickled with salt water.

Okinawa soba is very famous okinawa style noodle but it is hard to find the good one in Tokyo. Pure broth is made with pork bone and dried fish. Fried bitter melon with egg is called "Goya Chanpuru"and it is okinawa's home cooking dish.

For Dinner, my friend Aika joined us for dinner. She is friend from Vancouver and she was visiting her family in Okinawa. We had dinner at a restaurant where serves traditional okinawa style food.

 Shima rakyo again =)
I was addicted to this veggie!

Jimami tofu made with peanut.

Simmered Pork "Rafute"

Okinawa's famous seaweed "Umi Budou"( means ocean's grapes).
You can only get Umi Budou in the ocean around okinawa.

This is another seaweed called "Mozuku". This is Mozuku with vinaigrette style.

Shima Rakkyo Tempra

Mozuku Tempura

Salted small fish with tofu called "Karasu Tofu"

Stewed Pig feet called "Tebichi"

The View from my room was a picture-postcard landscape view =)

My friend got a water melon ball and we played beach volleyball!

We enjoyed swimming pool as well =)
